| David L. Carlson is Associate Professor and Director of Third Year Psychiatry Clerkship and Undergraduate Medical Education in Psychiatry, Department of Neuroscience, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Carlson received his BA degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, his M.Div. degree from Luther Theological Seminary, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his M.D. degree and residency training from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Carlson was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha as a medical student and selected as AMA - Education &Research Foundation Rock Sleyster Scholar in Psychiatry. He was both a Ginsberg and Post-Ginsberg Fellow with the Alcoholism & Addictions Committee of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP). He was selected to attend the “Future Leaders in Psychiatry” conference in 2001. He previously served as director of the Fargo Veterans Administration Medical Center’s Substance Abuse Treatment Program. Before attending medical school Dr. Carlson served congregations in North Dakota and co-directs an ongoing program working with newly ordained clergy, clergy in professional transition, pastoral care case studies groups, and multiple staff team consultation. Dr. Carlson is chair of the North Dakota Psychiatric Society (NDPS) Ethics Committee, an officer in the NDPS and the Assembly Representative to the APA from the NDPS. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in General Psychiatry with a subspecialty certification in Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Carlson has served as a reviewer for the National Board of Medical Examiners Psychiatry Subject Exam and is a member of the USMLE Step II Test Writing Committee in Psychiatry and the Psychiatry Subject Exam Test Writing Committee. He is a member of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP), the Association of Medical Educators and Researchers in Substance Abuse (AMERSA), and the Association of Academic Psychiatry (AAP). | |
