ZELKO LEON, M.D.
Clinical Professor

 

Zelko Leon is Clinical Professor in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and practicing psychiatrist at MeritCare Health System both in Fargo, North Dakota. He was born in the former Yugoslavia. His interest in medicine led him to attend medical school in Belgrade, and after graduating in 1978 he served as a military doctor for one year. In 1980 he began his psychiatric training by working in a large psychiatric hospital, after which he completed residency training in neuropsychiatry in Belgrade. In 1988 he came to the United States and began a psychiatric residency program at the University of North Dakota. Upon completion he worked at the VA Hospital in various positions. In 1996 he moved to Providence, RI where he was hired as a full-time outpatient psychiatrist by Butler Hospital. In November 2001 he opened a private practice, The Center for Mood and Anxiety Disorders. He has been actively involved at Brown University through clinical research activities and the training of medical students and residents and currently holds Clinical Associate Professor title. In May 2005 Dr Leon returned to Fargo to work as an outpatient psychiatrist for Meritcare Health System . He is also involved with obesity treatment program at Eating Disorders Institute. He is one of the core faculty members in the department involved in teaching of psychiatry residents and medical students.
